Arrowhead Game Studios is an independent Stockholm co-op developer. Its public motto is that a game for everyone is a game for no one. Helldivers 2, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, is the current flagship.
History
Magicka began as a student project in Skellefteå and won Game of the Year at the Swedish Game Awards 2008. The team founded Arrowhead in early 2009 so they could finish the game full-time. Magicka launched in January 2011 with Paradox Interactive as publisher.
Arrowhead moved from Skellefteå to Stockholm in 2012. Sony became publisher of Helldivers; Warner Bros. published Gauntlet. The studio is independently owned — Sony publishes Helldivers, it does not own Arrowhead.
Games
Five shipped titles: Magicka (January 2011), The Showdown Effect (2013), Gauntlet (PC, September 2014), Helldivers (PlayStation, March 2015; Steam that December) and Helldivers 2, which launched on 8 February 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC and later reached Xbox Series.
Now
Helldivers 2 remains in live service. In August 2026 Arrowhead shipped the Devoid of Liberty update as the game joined the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. The studio says it is newly located in Fatburen, in the middle of Södermalm’s game-development cluster.
