Coffee Stain Studios is the original Skövde team behind Goat Simulator and Satisfactory. Founded in 2010, the studio is part of Coffee Stain Group, which left Embracer in December 2025 and now trades on Nasdaq First North Premier.
Delayed quote, Nasdaq First North Premier. Not investment advice.
History
Coffee Stain was founded in Skövde in 2010 by Anton Westbergh — today group CEO — and eight co-founders, with the aim of making player-centric games. Goat Simulator, released in April 2014, turned a small physics sandbox into a global hit and set the studio’s reputation for odd, community-friendly ideas.
THQ Nordic (later Embracer Group) acquired Coffee Stain in 2018. On 11 December 2025 Coffee Stain Group’s class B shares (ticker COFFEE B) began trading on Nasdaq First North Premier after a distribution of Embracer’s holding. The Skövde studio remains the original development team inside that listed group.
Games
Games developed in Skövde include I Love Strawberries, Sanctum and Sanctum 2, Goat Simulator (April 2014) and Satisfactory. Satisfactory entered early access in March 2019 and left it as version 1.0 on 10 September 2024. Console versions followed in November 2025.
The wider Coffee Stain Group also publishes other Scandinavian titles — Valheim from Iron Gate, Deep Rock Galactic from Copenhagen’s Ghost Ship, Teardown from Tuxedo Labs. Those are sister or partner games, not Coffee Stain Studios productions.
Now
Satisfactory is still in active live support; Coffee Stain posted the 1.2 update in 2026. As a listed company, Coffee Stain Group reports separately from Embracer. The Skövde studio continues to operate as the original team behind Goat Simulator and Satisfactory.
