Lavapotion is a Gothenburg studio founded in 2017 to make lasting strategy games. Its first title, Songs of Conquest, is out on major platforms. The standalone spin-off Wielders of the Essence is due on 5 November 2026.
History
Co-founders Magnus Alm, Carl Toftfelt, Niklas Borglund and Patrik Liljecrantz launched the company with a minority investment from Coffee Stain — an equity stake, not a publishing deal at the time. Coffee Stain Publishing later published Songs of Conquest. The studio is still a small Gothenburg team.
Games
Songs of Conquest is a turn-based strategy adventure in the mould of 1990s fantasy campaigns. It entered Early Access on 10 May 2022 and reached 1.0 on 20 May 2024, with console versions following. Wielders of the Essence is a shorter-run incremental horde-survival game set in the same world of Aerbor, developed by Lavapotion and published with Coffee Stain Publishing.
Now
Wielders of the Essence launches on Steam on 5 November 2026; a demo is already available. Songs of Conquest continues to receive post-launch factions and story DLC.
