History
Starbreeze was founded in 1998 and is one of the longer-running independent game companies in northern Europe. PAYDAY: The Heist launched in 2011 and established the franchise the listed company now centres on. The parent company, Starbreeze AB (publ), has its visiting office in Stockholm.
Games
The series is PAYDAY: The Heist (2011), PAYDAY 2 (August 2013) and PAYDAY 3, which launched on 21 September 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. PAYDAY 2 is still sold and updated and, in recent quarters, has contributed more reported net sales than PAYDAY 3.
Now
Starbreeze’s Q2 2026 interim report (20 August 2026) showed net sales of SEK 25.6 million, of which PAYDAY 2 accounted for SEK 13.7 million and PAYDAY 3 for SEK 11.0 million. Profit/loss before tax was SEK −36.8 million; cash at period end was SEK 52.1 million. Third-party publishing and work-for-hire contributed nothing in the quarter as the company narrowed onto PAYDAY. Management said recent Steam reviews for PAYDAY 3 had turned Mostly Positive after a monthly update cadence. In August 2026 Starbreeze also announced a VICE Studios partnership — later joined by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson — to develop PAYDAY film and television adaptations. There is still a reported pre-tax loss; the IR does not describe a completed turnaround.
